Flexor Digitorum Longus FOOT Stretch for All Sitting
How to perform the stretch:
1. Start in a sitting position
2. Choose the muscle or foot you intend to stretch
3. Extend the target leg in front of you with a slightly flexed knee, and flex the target ankle towards you
4. Grasp toes 2-5 with the hand
5. Apply pressure to all the toes by pulling them towards your body to increase the stretch
6. Hold the stretch for 20 Seconds
7. Release the stretch

The Flexor Digitorum Longus action ‘curls’ the toes and also helps support the arch of the foot.
Origin:
- Posterior middle 1/3 of tibia.
Insertion:
- Base of distal phalanges 2-5 (plantar surface).
Action:
- Flexion of toes 2-5. Plantar flexion & inversion of foot (week action).
Prolonged overuse may cause tendonopathy and inflammation in such activities as dancing (Irish & Ballet) or rock climbing.
